Ken Johnson is a Chicago area dentist who has been involved in local short track stockcar racing since he was a kid in the 70's.  After many years of crewing on a friend's dirt track racecar, Ken started racing his own car--a motorcycle engine powered "Mini-Modified."

1992

The track announcer at Wilmot, Wisconsin's Kenosha County Speedway soon began referring to Ken during his races as "Doctor Tooth."  All of Ken's racecars have also referenced his ties to dentistry by carrying the same number on the door--"2th."

Dr. Tooth started out racing on the Kenosha County Speedway's one third mile clay oval, finishing 2nd in several season's point standings before winning his first of seven consecutive Mini-Modified Track Championships on both the dirt (2) at Wilmot and on the asphalt (5) at Lake Geneva Raceway in Wisconsin.

In Ken's final year of racing Mini-Modifieds on the dirt at Kenosha County Speedway

he simultaneously raced the full season in a second division, a full sized IMCA Modified powered by an alcohol fueled high compression 406 Chevy V-8 engine.

Numerous race wins, several track records and an impressive Feature Event win in his modified allowed Ken Johnson (Dr Tooth) to end up 3rd in the season's final point standings and capture the distinction of IMCA Rookie of the Year.

In 2000, Ken began racing his Mini-Modified on the one third mile asphalt oval at Lake Geneva Raceway in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Many race wins, fastest qualifying laps, and track records at both Lake Geneva Raceway and

Rockford Speedway helped Ken win the Track Championships for 5 straight years.

After this success a move up into the track's premier Friday night division, the Millenium Latemodels, was a natural progression.

For his first season in the full sized high powered V-8 Chevy Monte Carlo, Ken adapted well and captured several wins and another career Rookie of the Year title.  At the start of Ken's second season in the Latemodel, he and his fellow competitors heard the devastating news that the Lake Geneva Raceway had been sold to a home developer and that this would be the track's final season.  With the news as a motivator Dr. Tooth and his competitors each worked to make the final season their personal best.  In the final year of racing (2006) at Lake Geneva Raceway, Ken faired well in the highly competive division and finished 4th in season's point standings.  As a bonus, Ken's adopted teammate and chassis consultant,

Sonny Schoffen, won the Millenium Latemodel Track Championship and Ken and several of his friend's shared driving duties to win the Track Championship in his Mini-Modified!

With the Lake Geneva Raceway closed in 2007, Ken chose to rebuild his car for 2008 from the ground up with help from some very good friends (Don Collins, Scott Kuxhouse, Sonny Schoffen, and Jim and Aaron Katzenberg).

In 2007 Ken helped Scott Kuxhouse assemble a dirt Modified racecar and team to race on the clay oval at Wilmot, Wisconsin.  After a grueling season of racing with some really tough competition, Ken and Scott and the dirt57 team won the Modified Track Championship.

During the Winter months since 2003 Ken has successfully promoted an indoor go-kart racing league (KIRL) where he and his racing friends compete at Chicago Indoor Racing in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.  On the first Sunday night of the month from November until April, fifty to one hundred racers from all over the Midwest show up to race on a 1/4 mile indoor go-kart racing road course.

2008 was a new chapter, Ken and Sonny raced their Latemodels at many of the events in the Big 8 Latemodel Racing Series, Scott returned to defend his title at Wilmot and Ken's Mini-Modified raced at Grundy County Speedway , Slinger Super Speedway, Columbus 151 SpeedwayJefferson Speedway, and the Dells Raceway Park with Joe McGinnis behind the wheel. In the past, numerous drivers have wheeled Ken's "Toothmobile" to successful results: Nascar's Erik Darnell, Mid-AM's James Swan, and Lake Geneva's Sonny Schoffen.  In 2008 ARTGO's Ed Dunne raced the latemodel along with Ken and James Swan!

In 2009 Ken turned over the keys of the latemodel to James Swan and his fleet of sponsors and capable crewmembers. The 4 time MidAm champ and owner of numerous area track championships drove the toothmobile with the number 97 to his first Rookie of the Year Title in the competitve Big 8 series.

Scott Kuxhouse raced a full season at Wilmot Raceway and in his typical dominating fashion picked up a third consecutive Championship and 4th in 5 years of racing modifieds at Wilmot.

Ken was back in the cockpit of his minimodified winning races and setting fast times.

He loaned the minimodified out once to Minisprint racer Nick Petska who didn't quite bring it home in one piece at the end of the year!

2010 will see Ken campaigning the minimodified around Wisconsin while James Swan does the same in the #97 toothmobile! Scott Kuxhouse and his son Cameron will be racing modifieds at Wilmot Raceway.

Legendary ASA racer Don Collins will continue to maintain the toothmobile at his Kenosha County shop.
